Congratulation! Members of the Metropolitan Alliance for Workforce Equity (MAWE)
On September 5, 2012, Portland City Council approved a resolution to bring forward the Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) developed by MAWE. The model CBA is a three-pronged plan to:
- Ensure workforce equity and community inclusion goals
- Promote training and placement of women and people of color.
- Drive demands for minority and women owned business on specific public construction projects.
Over the last two years, the MAWE committee has worked with City of Portland to develop this model CBA). Historically, women and people of color have been denied equal access to high quality jobs in the building and construction industry. The CBA seeks to overcome barriers to entry for these underrepresented populations through the recruitment, training, and hiring of a diverse and qualified workforce.
Constructing Hope was privileged to be one of four pre-apprenticeship programs to participate as a MAWE member. The resolution will piloted on a large scale, City construction projects in the near future. (Kelly Butte, City of Portland Waste Water Treatment).
